''Beautility'' Good Design Has Utility by Tucker Viemeister

Beautility it is a combination between two words beauty and utility

and utility means something practical and useful

Economic grab all the headlines, but beauty is just as important they complete each others.

However for some cultures beauty never meets utility and vise virsa.

To make it more clear French people they eat dessert before eating their meal, which means that beauty is a priority in their life while utility is just a secondary option. On the other hand we have china utility is their number one while beauty is a secondary. They have electronic industry, heavy industry like coal- petroleum as you can see no beauty is there.beauty's effects go a longer way than meets the eye, the dimensions of its positivity last, not only throughout the moment, but also throughout an extension of that moment.

it has deep psychological effects that grasp every human being and entices them into taking pleasure by looking at it or perceiving it in any way. Beauty, is one of these subjective matters that go hand in hand with the individual's perception on life, self and many other aspects which form that individual's "being"

The Designer as Producer

Artwork is the process or product of arranging elements in a way to effect senses or emotions, It encompasses a diverse range in artists and designers activities, creations, and modes of expressions,, To some people, art and design is very important, to others it is nothing, To most it is nice, but fades away beside the everyday problems and catastrophic events.

There appears to be something about art that really means something to many of us, the fact that some people spend so much time trying to understand it, some spend money on one artwork than most people earn in a lifetime, that should make you think, it definitely shows that something is going on there, Based on that, I feel it’s pretty clear that art is more than just work. it is a respond to inspirations popping up here and there and using it without hesitation.

Good artwork has an audience, and yes artists and designers can comfort people with it, it’s meant to talk, please, and maybe jump out. Logo’s for example symbolize and provide an image nothing else can provide, it has to be suitable for any event changes , it is the centerpiece of the concept you want to deliver.

Designing a logo reveals meanings, and reveals function, it can’t be hidden. Artists rights has never been preserved, a lot of people abused artwork, even artists between themselves,, as far as I can see it is illegal to change somebody’s artwork even if it’s for a good purpose, you cannot take someone’s work and use it, sell it without credit on the work and permission from its owner. yet law can't follow and protect it all!!! It’s too widespread. What you can do is love the work, maybe use some of the design elements BUT your own techniques, you can elaborate, it’s ok to be inspired by the work and idea and work around it.

Responsibility answers absurdity by Micheal schmidt

Globalization is a business term that grasps the concept that the world is integrating into one large economy where the markets for goods and services are targeted to distributing around the whole world. Saudi Arabia’s main resource is petroleum and contributes 90% of our revenue as a country. We are the largest distributers of petroleum and are one the members of OPEC. This shows that Saudi Arabia is globalizing by selling its petroleum products to countries all over the world.

Corporations all over the world try to expand their sales by entering into new markets and increasing their market share as well. Every successful corporation must know, before going global you must first fully satisfy the local market. Only when you do so you are ready to go global. When entering into new markets, corporations must study the key components of the country and region from the economic development to the government rules and regulations. Every corporation has a distinct and unique logo that defines it. This logo will also define the brand of the products they’re selling. This is where graphic designers come in play. They must create a logo that attracts the consumers as well as maintaining relevance to the company’s image.

Furthermore another topic raised by globalization. What is the different between advertising and propaganda and are they somewhat the same. From my point of view I believe that both are similar because they are mediums used to spread information and promotions. Nonetheless they are also different because advertising is used from a business point of view whereas propaganda is more about social and political views.

As a conclusion I would like to say globalization is beneficial to the whole world but the degree of benefitcy isn’t proportional to all countries.
As for advertisingand propaganda, I think it depends on what type of message is being expressed. Each media has its own way of reaching people and the selection of either one of them depends on what you’re trying to get across.

A Life of Luxury by Hugh Aldersey-Williams

Numbered ListThe term luxury is considered to be one of the key desires a people would like to obtain during their lifetime. Luxury can be expressed in many different ways. Most people consider luxury as being lavish and exotic.

The term luxury nowadays is used by many to describe possessions of great value and excessive prices, such as exotic cars, designer clothing and luggage, jewelry and five star hotels. We see people expressing their satisfaction with luxury everywhere we look from the people we see on the streets to the stars and celebrities on television.

From my point of view I believe luxury is a life style by people with excess money and thrive for comfort. Furthermore luxury can be considered as an attachment that clings people to acquiring materialistic objects to satisfy the basic needs of a human being.

Expelling school violence

This passage talks about a very serious topic concerning school violence. The true way of stopping this violence isn’t by expelling the students but rather sending a message to them. The best way to send a message to young students is through advertising and design. Creating a message that students can relate to and teach them a better way to deal with their anger issues.

Some countries around the world took action to this catastrophic issue and began awareness programs to help stop these acts of violence. The first step of solving the problem is admitting it in the first place. Then look for the influencing factors causing the problem itself. After researching this problem we found that children are influenced largely by violent video games and television broadcasting. Sadly the only Arab country participating against school violence is Jordan buy launching a campaign called together towards a safe school environment.

We as a society should begin to publish these issues on the media so people become more aware and start dealing with this problem rather then hiding it. This matter is very serious and should be treated as soon as possible.

Mental Whiplash

Mental Whiplash

In the field of graphic design mental whiplash implies a change in the direction of personification due to the sudden realization of our continuous decline in addressing unlimited variations and unpredictable types of content. Whiplash in our field is mostly shown through contemporary graphic design. This technique requires great skills and knowledge and must be acquired during a student’s academic career. Usually students research is used to learn about these methods of design but often students misunderstand the right way of accomplishing a successful research project.

There are two types of briefs given to the students to begin their researches. The first is giving the student to choose the topic for which he will do his project. This allows the student a larger aspiration as he or she will choose a topic they have passion for. The other method is a topic given to the student by the instructor. This will help the student acquire a certain skill.

From the students part they must do their best in order to achieve their goals. Nonetheless putting in mind that students have different abilities and strengths in inventing and re-inventing. The teachers also play a huge role on how the students grasp the knowledge and skills needed. Before selecting the teacher we must see if she qualifies to all the criteria needed.

As a conclusion I would like to say that mental whiplash in this contexts must be treated delicately in order to build a strong backbone in graphic designing.

Healing with Design

1- Do you believe in healing with sound?

Yes I do believe in healing with sound. It is proven scientifically that sound can heal the body and mind. Sound Healing works on the principle that everything in the Universe is energy in vibration. Behind perceived reality is an incredible cosmic dance of interconnected energy fields. Everything has its own particular vibration. Atoms, cells, molecules, body organs, our environment, all creating a gigantic symphony. By sounding the correct vibration, through resonance and harmonics, with a healing intention an “off-key” part of the body can be restored to balance

2- Do you think that restaurant light can affect the consumer appetite?

Restaurant lighting does affect consumer appetite. Using different contrast of light and different shades of light can help create hunger and the desire to eat. This mechanism is used in all restaurants depending on the overall environment as well as the dishes served in. Food is a pleasure for both the mind and body. The food and texture is very essential to the restaurant but lighting is also a key factor in the overall enjoyment of the meal by the consumers.

3- As a Graphic designer, how can the choice of color affect your design?

Since we know color comes from different spectrums of light, which means they have different effects our mental state, behavior and health. When making the design as a graphic designer I must interpret what I want to achieve from my design through the color chose. This is a very key factor used to portray what type of message I’m trying to send to the people who are looking at the design itself.

Reality branding

This topic is very interesting and necessary as it portrays the truth and honesty of the brand through the product itself. What you see is what you get. In reality, reality branding isn’t being accomplished fully. Some companies make bold statements about their products and customer satisfaction that are untrue. This is exactly the opposite of reality branding.

I believe reality branding is the best way to gain consumer trust and loyalty. Companies that can successfully achieve this objective will surely increase their market share and boost their image. One of the main methods of achieving reality branding is by making the product relevant to the consumer. Researching the wants and needs of the consumers and providing them with a good quality product that will satisfy them.

In my conclusion i believe that All companies around the world should apply reality branding to provide the best market variety and value, with competitive edge. Anything other than reality branding should be considered as false acquisitions.

Who gets to say what to whom?

To start off I find no relation between the title and the content presented. The title hasn’t been clearly explained, but I think what has been tried to be conveyed is the relationship between the logo itself and the message behind it.

Companies try to present a logo that is both attractive and pleasing to the eye. The tricky part with the logo is trying to send a message through it. It is known that physiologically the colors red and yellow trigger the appetite that is why we find most fast-food restaurants try to blend these two colors in their logos. The Blackberry mobile phone was one the fastest spreading products in Saudi Arabia. I believe this products was spread as quickly as it did not because of advertisements on the streets and in malls but because of word of mouth.

From the content of this blog we can see that logos play a big role in attracting potential consumers. Creating such a logo is very essential to the company as it is the trademark representing them.

Ethical design Education

The phrase ethical design education is a very misunderstood phrase. The technical idea behind it is to teach people how to design, source and manufacture products that are both socially and environmentally conscious. After designers learn how to implement this philosophy they are given the freedom to work within this mind set.

A largely debatable topic that has been going on for years is whether or not it is ethical to wear fur. From this debate an organization has risen to take action, people for the ethical treatment of animals (Peta). Somewhat I agree with peta, we must respect all living creatures on the earth. However I also agree that wearing fur isn’t really considered unethical in some circumstances.

VS

As a conclusion I would like to point out that in the end people will do whatever they find suitable for themselves. People making these decisions are adults so they should have the freedom to wear fur or not. I'm not pointing out that’s its right or wrong but the fact is that’s what is happening in the real world.

Socially responsible advertising

Socially responsible advertising is a very sensitive topic. Some critics believe companies do these types of advertising for a publicity stunt to show the public that they are environmentally friendly or fighting a good cause. On the other hand some companies actually truly care for the environment. In both cases the aim of the advertising is to enhance the company's image to the public and increase sales.

In recent years people around the world are becoming more concerned with healthcare. This is due to the increases of diseases and the ability to control them. This caused people to be concerned with the products they consume. In this situation companies began to display their products as being as natural as possible without using chemically enhanced resources. Locally we see some companies stepping forward to the plate and taking action. Al-baik was one of the first companies in K.S.A to start socially responsible advertising. The target of their campaign was to make the community more aware about the cleanness of our environment.

From my point of view I believe socially responsible advertising in the end has a positive effect overall for both the companies and the society. Although the public truly doesn’t know whether or not the advertisement itself was for a good cause or just for the companies own good.
